SEEDSTARS WORLD IS COMING TO MANILA TO FIND THE BEST TECH STARTUP IN THE PHILIPPINES
2 out of 5 Seedstars global winners are from the Philippines - panel discussion with these founders at the event
On July 8th 2017, 8 of the Philippines’ best seed stage startups will compete to represent the Philippines at both the Seedstars Asia Regional Summit and at the global Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.
Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, is returning to the Philippines on July 8th. The hopes are very high, since out of 5 years, 2 times the title of Seedstars global winner went to Philippine startup! The Seedstars 2016 global winner was the fintech startup Acudeen from the Philippines. Bloomberg TV’s host RJ Ledesma will host panel discussion with both these founders and CEOs - Magellan Fetalino from Acuddeen and Judah Hirsch from Salarium.
In line with its mission to place the spotlight on entrepreneurs from emerging markets, Seedstars World is travelling to more than 70 countries this year to identify the best seed-stage entrepreneurs and provide them with an opportunity to win up to USD 1 million and network with investors and mentors from around the world. Its previous participants have raised over USD 61M collectively, providing employment to more than 835 employees worldwide.
The companies selected to pitch at the Seedstars Manila event need to be less than 2 years old, have raised less than USD 500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction. The Seedstars World team is searching for one additional criterion - the startup’s regional and global scalability. With a strong network of international partners such as Bloomberg, BrainSparks, acceler8, Seedstars World is looking for innovative startups that solve regional issues and develop profitable products for the global market, with the aim of supporting the growth of these businesses.
“Seedstars World is a platform connecting investors to the next generation of entrepreneurs, outside of Silicon Valley and Western Europe. This will be our 3rd time organizing our event in the Philippines, and given the bustling nature of the startup ecosystem, we expect the quality of the startups to be very high.” explains Nick Feneck, Regional Manager at Seedstars World, “We are excited to be coming back, and cannot wait to discover this year’s most promising Filipino tech startups.”
Acudeen Technologies Inc, founded by Mario Jordan “Magellan” Fetalino III, was awarded the Seedstars trophy on stage by Pierre-Alain Masson, Co-founder at Seedstars Group and crowned the “Seedstars World Global Winner 2017” for their innovative solution that turns SMEs invoices into cash through discounting of their receivables, providing them with necessary working capital they are not getting from the banks.
